Area Description
A constant hub of activity, downtown Appleton offers residents a sophisticated urban setting while embracing the history of the beautiful Fox River. Lawrence University’s prestigious campus buildings oversee many beloved Fox Valley events and festivals such as the Mile of Music and an authentic German Octoberfest. While the small city area is easy to navigate, it can be made even easier by using the free trolley to get around for things like the outdoor summer concert series, farmers market and local artist displays.
In 1853, the city’s first paper mill was built, and Appleton still celebrates this heritage with the Paper Discovery Center, a short walk from the Lawrence campus. The entire river area has been maintained as a stunning section of the city for walking, dining, living and otherwise exploring.
